Condition: Engine BMW D 2/85259
Fighter bomber use
ETC 501 with intermediate rack under the fuselage
Each wing an un-faired ETC 501 rack with limited loading capacity (only for empty auxiliary tank)
Further condition: see flight report No. 2

Program: 1.) Level speeds with combat power for the operational conditions:

a.) Clean machine, without attachments
b.) with 3 x 501 ETC racks
c.) with 2 auxiliary tanks without bombs
d.) with 2 auxiliary tanks and 551 lb. (250 kg) bombs

2.) Check of the flight characteristics after mounting the racks under the wings.

Results: 1.) The level speeds for combat power are given on the accompanying graph. Speed losses at Sea Level (0 m) height are:

a - b) for 3 x ETC 501 Δ V = 14 mph (22 km/h)
a - c) for 3 racks with auxiliary tanks Δ V = 36 mph (58 km/h)
a - d) for 3 racks with auxiliary tanks and a 551 lb. (250 kg) bomb Δ V = 45 mph (73 km/h)

In operational condition d), with tanks and bombs, the absolute level speeds are approximately equal to the values that were obtained for the fighter bomber with the large Ju-87 tank fairing (275 mph to 277 mph) (442 km/h to 445 km/h), while the return flight condition b) without tanks or any bomb, No. 619 is better regarding speed (306 mph to 293 mph) (492 km/h to 471 km/h). A comparison with the planned Fw-rack for 551 lb. (250 kg) bomb can only follow after first converting it to an auxiliary tank rack.

2.) In contrast to the bare Ju 87 rack, a degradation of flying qualities is not experienced by installing the ETC 501 under the wings. Aileron flutter was not observed.
