Condition:
Engine BMW D 2/85259
Operational condition as fighter bomber with Fw-racks for the auxiliary tanks and permanently mounted ETC 501 under the fuselage.
Other condition see Flight Report No. 4

Program:
1.) Ram pressure calibration on the test course.
a.) Fw-rack without auxiliary tank
b.) Fw-rack with auxiliary tank

2.) Level speeds with combat and economical power. (with ETC 501 without bombs under the fuselage)
a.) Without Fw-rack
b.) Fw-rack without auxiliary tank
c.) Fw-rack with auxiliary tank

Results:
1.) As can be seen from the enclosed plot of flown ram pressure calibration, the installation of the auxiliary tank increases the existing indication error of the airspeed indicator (shows too little) by an additional 6-7 km/h. The ram effect of the auxilary tank located below the pitot tube changes the measured statical pressure and thereby falsifies the airspeed and altitude indication.

2.) Under consideration of the ram pressure calibrations, level speeds for conditions a - c of the program are shown for n = 2400 and 2100 on graph sheet 2. With combat power, at full throttle height and at sea level, a speed loss of Δ V = 22 - 24 km/h results from the Fw-rack and Δ V = 54-59 km/h from the rack with auxiliary tanks. A further loss of ~ 15 km/h is expected in approach condition with a 250 kg bomb attached.
